  1. There is some Joyceanism. But it's pure Scherk, and para 5 especially approaches another WS. Lyrical, frantic, hilarious, deeply pathetic and empathetic, furious, glorious.
  2. Yet it’s a useful diagnostic tool. <div style="background-color:#000000;width:368px;"><div style="padding:4px;"><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:cms:item:southparkstudios.com:151952" width="360" height="293" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="." flashVars=""></embed><p style="text-align:left;background-color:#FFFFFF;padding:4px;margin-top:4px;margin-bottom:0px;font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:12px;"><b><a href="http://www.southparkstudios.com/full-episodes/s04e04-timmy-2000">Timmy 2000</a></b><br/>Get More: <a style="display: block; position: relative; top: -1.33em; float: right; font-weight: bold; color: #ffcc00; text-decoration: none" href="http://www.southparkstudios.com/">SOUTH<br/>PARK</a><a href="http://www.southparkstudios.com/guide/episodes/s04e04-timmy-2000">more...</a></p></div></div> The Great Gatsby is always near the top of lists of greatest novels, I’ve read it of course, and don’t quite get why it’s so revered. Fitzgerald and Wodehouse were friendly contemporaries, and comparing the two could be a good case study in Benevolent vs. Malevolent sense of life. I had the same reaction to GG. I think its shining reputation has something to do with the litcrit trend at the time, in which the American novel often seemed to be a Greatness contest. Each book by each major writer was a Winner or a Loser. Writers were celebrities. I'll take Wodehouse any day.
  3. What the... I'd forgotten about that. You are right Tony, I chose the epochal year of 1905 when I changed my profile, but the years didn't go more than 100 back.. You'd expect an enlightened website to have more faith in biotechnology. I expect Phil, for example, to outlive everybody who ever disagrees with him, out of sheer cussedness. My real birthday is in April but since the Queen gets to have two, as a constitutional monarchist I think everyone else is entitled to them too. In OL terms I am one, having joined last New Year's Eve, so I chose Jan, 1. And as I said, I had forgotten about it, so your kind greetings sure started my day with a jolt. Happy New Year to we!
  4. You're welcome Peter. But I wasn't born yesterday...I've heard that "My wife has gone to bed" line before!
  5. What do you mean, New Year? It's Saturday isn't it... regular Hockey Night. Get your values straight.
  6. Good grief, what a family food fight the O movement seems to have been What next, did little Barbara always have to babysit her cousin Leonard without pay?
  7. lol. Pix are available for suitable fee Just remember Noli me tangere, for Caesar's I ame, And wild for to hold although I seem tame Thomas Wyatt
  8. Why, why? It is not bad enough the Leafs can't get to the playoffs in living memory? Lowering expectations is not a good strategy in that situation. Proving that like the Scots folk with tennis, they can't kill the penalty to save their lives, and breaking the 11-year-old record for not being able to kill penalties, is not the goal to aim for here. I feel like killing somebody myself but who, who? Needless to state TO is behind 3-2 in the Peg, due to two Jets power play goals.
  9. Carol: I know I am making a pure leap of faith here, but I can imagine him not reading them. These "sentences" seem completely out of character to Dr. Paul. Serious black intellectuals like Dr. Williams and Thomas Sowell have stated that Dr. Paul is not a racist. Adam I accept that he is not a racist, but I can't believe that he was unaware of the racist content. He knew who he hired to write for him. He may have taken a hands, or eyes off approach, but this does not distance him from what was published under his name, in my view.
  10. Of course he read them. I have written corporate newsletters. Every word was agonized over by everybody whose name appeared in it, and the CEO was never negligent in reading and personally approving every issue. I have no doubt that Paul disliked and disagreed with much of the offensive content, but he's a politician. The gain in votes and donations was worth it to him.
  11. He is addressing the quotable quotes which have been drawing the fire. This statement just invites his enemies to go back to that wretched archive and find more "sentences", many more than eight or ten, strung together in whole articles, and heave them back at him.
  12. lol thanks. My front side and rear view mirrors are quite accurate, thank you Doctor.
  13. Thanks Awesome. Now get back in the house.
  14. How about applying some high standards here? Ba'al Chatzaf Dennis is obviously just trying to impress Taylor Schilling and advance her career so her publicists notice his activities, and he might get to date her. Well, it worked with Lindsay Lohan. You think promoting AS Part One is a tough sell. Try sticking up for Freaky Friday. (It was worth it, though.) Way to go! How did you make out with Jodie Foster? Any two for ones included in the deal?
  15. You let your son date right wingers? I am broadminded. I allowed my other son to marry a blonde.
  16. Hello, hello Is this the Objects for Living ? No, this is the Binswanger Bunker...hold on, I'll connect you Objects for Living, your Sins of Life enhanced, how can I help you? I just saw Philip the Robot on TV, are you doing anything like him? Ma'am, with respect, my private life is none of your business. Philip is the product of a competitor and we cannot comment Can we fulfill any of your needs regarding SOL services? I hope so. I bought the Ravishyou and the MSK Awesome from you, and I am not satisfied. What, not by both of them? Under the warranty.. I just read the warranty, it doesn't cover them going on strike against me i wasn't warned. Strike? You mean they collectivized? I assure you that is impossible, they are hardwired against that and I mean hard... I didn't say they collectivized. I don't care how they did it, they got out of the house and they are standing there right now, singing "I Shall Overcome." Ma'am, I don't see what I can do here. Can;t you go out and bring them back in? I can't go out there! All the neighbours and the City TV van and those damn Fedex guys...Ravi, Awesome, how could you do this to me...why, oh why did I ever think it was a good idea to hide your clothes.. Ma'am, try to calm down If you have the clothes we can give you a partial refund. Refund! What about my life, my reputation, all my shrubs those humanoids are tromping on... Ma'am please, I' trying to help you try to get ahold of yourself. I could have done that in the first place!
  17. You should bother, Phil, not with this particular typical exchange , but with your own goals in analyzing, writing about and ultimately spreading Objectivism, with or without the feedback of others here If it's with, you can put up with the comments of the snark squad who may occasionally have something to contribute to your endeavours, or you can ignore them in numerous ways which WSS has painstakingly explained to you. What you cannot do, is get your enemies to do what you want them to do, whatever that is, or make them go away which they won't. And if they make you go away, which apparently has happened before, then they win. Carol Friend to allThis has nothing to do with "winning" or with Phil's enemies. Ghs Sorry, I think it has something to do with it, and I know you are not actually Phil's enemy. It is about the fact that he does not know that, lacks self-awareness and so on, and refuses to address such points, while claiming you do not address his poiints, and the wheels of the bus go round and round.
  18. That is true Michael, but I reject your implication that my own folly (which there was lots of) was to my loss. On the contrary, having loved and lost and been mistaken and screwed up in pursuit of sex (it was great) power (I have enough, thanks) and money (oh well), I have only gained.
  19. Would Stossel have been doing his audience a favor by promoting a second rate motion picture? I happen to think too much of the novel -Atlas Shrugged- to not give that second rate flick the Bronx Cheer. How about applying some high standards here? Ba'al Chatzaf Dennis is obviously just trying to impress Taylor Schilling and advance her career so her publicists notice his activities, and he might get to date her.
  20. A HA! The dirt finally comes out! Michael Oh, yeah. We reconnected via email a couple of years ago actually, and that got me reinterested in the Oism world which I had not really thought about for decades. He did not want to talk about it however, as he has become an anarchist , so when I got my computer I started looking around, ... that's ultimately the reason I am now infesting your site

  22. Glad to hear you're enjoying the holidays, Daunce. Thanks for the report! During a recent dinner with friends, a woman mentioned that one of the things she liked about marriage is that "men let you mold them." She said it casually, like she was describing the weather. There was nothing in her tone to suggest that she was saying anything everyone did not already know. Single life has its perks. LA must truly mean LaLa land. I never met any moldable men, but my first love was an Objectivist and my husband was a Scotsman, so maybe I'm not the best judge of males in general.
  23. I wouldn't either. If people started to learn grammar and basic essay construction on their own, I would be out of work.
