  1. The strangest one I got was "Have you ever been sexually harassed on the job?" Maybe the company had had problems with that, but I didn't know that. Jeez.
  2. I know everything is really all about you, Moralist, but I was actually thinking about a few million other individuals.
  3. Formidable, However as one of the difficulties to be encountered in crossing, good luck Brantoids in breaking my balls. Sincerely Laura Secord
  4. Wowie that looks declicious! Recently I had my first and likely last mai tai. No I did not win a trip to Hawaii, the premixed were half price at the liquor store. Cocktails are so tasty it is a good thing I cannot usually afford them. A la votre Cathy! Carol Moosehead forever
  5. You answered my question, sort of, implying it has not happened yet. I think you underestimate the resourcefuslness of human beings. We are more than just the pawns of an economic system.
  6. Great old thread, just noticed it. As a native of the Chocolate Town I note that neither Hershey nor |Mars invented the chocolate bar. It was the Ganong, who kept their factory in their town, thus stabilising its population at around five thousand, sent their children to the only local school, married their employees and neighbours, and to this day make the best damn chocolate in the world.
  7. Has the catastrophic failure already occurred, or is part of it still to happen because of Obamacare?
  8. Nevermind guys, Brant has been ready for retaliation for a long time, and you are both in easy reach of his Great Lakes Fleet when the Day of Destiny dawns. He, of course, will be stuck in the southwest watching hockey replays.
  9. Oh, no! No wonder I slunk into flacking! You are right, I missed it. Too much going on locally. As to thethe to the Swan Song, words fail me. But not entirely. Dog provides a fair example of Bathos ...rings his despairing alarm against the greatest ignored evils of today..the reality of "black on white crime, and the higher rate of unemployment among males than females". Maybe on top of all else he has to suffer, as a lone truth teller who is morally superior to all seven billion other people in the world, he has lost his job?
  10. What a strange harmony is art. the liar's chair and the marble arch, the needle Cash knew and the cutting syndrome he probably never heard of, the raptured king and the emperor of dirt... and Hallelujah for all of it.
  11. Coincidentally I was watching the rerun channel, the Archie Bunker episode where he gets jailed and bailed out by Meathead, then tells the Polish desk sergeant Mike is his "dumb Polack son in law".
  12. "I have no reasons to resign", says the mayor, and that is certainly true. One, he can't be removed from office...even if he is convicted of a crime, he keeps the job until he actually goes to jail. There is nothing in it for him to give up the power and resources he has as mayor, which can still be exploitable for his personal aims. Of course, it would be good for Toronto if he quit, but he has never cared or pretended to care about what is good for Toronto, only its suburbs.
  13. Stephen, that is a simply wonderful photograph of two beautiful people in harmony with nature.
  14. The seminal issue presented was that the government's aim was to destroy private practitioners. That this would destroy quality of service is your deduction. Presumably many of the private practitioners become part of the public system,so this implies that that doctors and nurses etc become universally less skilled and diligent when being paid differently. It's a theory, I guess.
  15. lol. I hear that Apple is thinking of buying the Coyotes and renaming them the Arizona Datums.
  16. And even after transition, there are plenty of private health services available, as there are in Britain and other singlepayer countries.
  17. Boston strongest! Grreat win, and the first home final in ninety five years for the Sox fans... give hope to all the patient Jobs of Jockdom. Now back to the foreign sports... then Rangers/Canucks coach swap is working out better for Vancouver than NY, so much so that some are calling for Tortorella's return. DGB reports that the players however, are whimpering "Please, no, no...don't let the bad man come back and hurt us again..."
  18. |Leafs keep winning although they are outshot in every single game by alarming margins. This is a big concern of Coach Carlyle who was included in a Down Goes Brown roundup of "Coaches on the Hot Seat" . McIindoe reports that he currently has the hottest seat in the whole NHL. He put his office chair on the wing with Kessel and it has seven points in its last three games.
  19. Toronto's Halloween trick came from a guy in a police costume, announcing that cops had retrieved a video that obviously does not exist since it was made up by the lying liars at the Toronto Star.Law and Order Mayor Rob "Not a Crackhead" Ford laughed heartily at the joke. The treat was that the Leafs have won in Calgary for the first time since 2002 and are the Eastern Conference leaders.
  20. Brant, I think your impressions are correct and though you would never admit it, fit in with my own theories. To adopt the admirable characteristics of a conquered people and claim them as own, trampling on history in the process, is all too easy as time goes on and the conquered people die out. After all there have been so many conquered, and so few winners, and history like philosophy, is about winners and losers... or maybe not yet.
  21. The thing about sports leagues, it is fair fights between equallymatched peers. The conflict between "redskins" and , er, Washington was not that. In Canada we have no national team called the Manitoba Metis, for good reason.
  22. Same goes for Yankees, as the Charleston Confederates can attest.
  23. Nonsense. "Canuck" only carries pejoratives from teams who lose to them , like the innocuously named Tax Rapers.
  24. Oh! The possibilities here... but I have vowed not to take advantage of openings offered for lawyer jokes and spelling taunts in the same week. However tempted.

    Welcome

Stephen, you express my view more clearly than I can! The utopian view such as jts discussed, that freedom from all constraints on capitalist activity will necessarily create such wealth that no one need be poor, has always seemed fundamentally unsound to me.
