jts
Ayn Rand's definition of capitalism is: social system based on recognition of rights. The conventional definition of capitalism is: private ownership of the means of production.By the conventional definition of capitalism, slavery is capitalism. You ask how. Slavery is private ownership of the means of production, the means of production in this case being slaves.Phooey on the conventional definition of capitalism. Ayn Rand's definition is better. Phooey on any dictionary that disagrees with Ayn Rand's definition.
syrakusos
We just went through this. Dictionary definitions only report what most users apparently mean. The dictionary is not an absolute authority of anything only a statistical report. The dictionary definition you cite would apply to feudalism and Soviet socialism as well as to agrarian slavery. That is another problem with dictionaries and why we have encyclopdias: to explain facts too complicated for a single line of type.
