Pathogen
Hola Objectionist folks!Yes, new here and all that. Been steeped in Objectivism since the mid-80s. Have read everything Ayn Rand has ever penned including the stuff she scribbled in the margins of her comic books, go figure (I hear she was a huge Green Lantern fan). She was a genius, pure and simple. This doesn't mean that she didn't have flaws or was never wrong, it just means that she was pretty damn good at dishing out the philosophy whilst cutting thru the BS.Lots more of course, always lots more, but it's late and I'm hungry and I'm hoping someone can direct me to the lounge. From what I understand you folks put out a pretty good spread replete with shrimp cocktail and made-to-order bruschetta. And if it's not too much trouble perhaps a couple fingers of Glenlivit gently poured over an ice cube or two just to make me feel at home.

Pathogen
Thank you all for the warm welcome! #1. Falsely accused by a site admin of using proxies -- check.#2. Falsely accused by a site admin of being from the Peoples Republic of Kalifornia -- check.#3. Falsely accused of being on drugs by someone completely lacking a sense of humor and worse, someone who deifies the lamest Dr. Who incarnation ever -- check. (Sweetheart, someone's on drugs here but is sure ain't me.)#4. Notice taken of the complete lack of activity on this forum other than by a handful of bitchy, self-important cyber heroes -- check.#5. Simple math done to figure out why this site lacks significant participating members (New members X bitchy, snarky "greeting" from tired, old, frustrated, repressed, angry and impotent site veterans = No thanks from newbies!) -- check. Dan Haggerty
It had style, I'll give him that. A little etiquette* and he could go far. Only he can now decide if he will reside in Arbitrary SiberiaTM. * Common sense.
blackhorse
Welcome, Pathogen. I never take myself too seriously. There are some "Serious Stevens" on OL that don't have much of a sense of humor, but overall OL is a great place to chew on ideas (thank you Michael!). Michael Stuart Kelly
Just a note for semi-geeks.Maybe troll-boy was not using a proxy, but it's definitely monkey-business.Since he's so brash and presumptive about us inferiors, I'm sure he won't mind me sharing his IP address and a place people can check for themselves.Visual Trace Route ToolHere'e his IP: 70.194.132.89(This is nowhere near a hacker-level resource, but then again, I'm no hacker.)Michael

Simple math done to figure out why this site lacks significant participating members (New members X bitchy, snarky "greeting" from tired, old, frustrated, repressed, angry and impotent site veterans = No thanks from newbies!) -- check.Hello and goodbye in five short comments? Too bad. As fellow tired, old, frustrated, repressed, angry and impotent site veteran PDS remarks, there was an element of style, if not sparkle, in the five comments left by the person known only as Pathogen. Is this voice forever stilled because of Group Recoil? It's worth thinking about; there might be a bar to newcomers. The better among us tired and old frustrated vets might extend a warmer welcome if there was more to hang a hat on. An avatar and a moniker is pretty thin information. MSK's note is neither here nor there -- I do not know if the Pathogen was proxy-served from La Brea: what if he (or she) was, how is that pertinent to Hello?Maybe Pathogen was attempting to ape or otherwise mirror a tone of discourse. We will likely never know, nor will we know age, gender, lifestyle, opinions on Diana Hsieh, opinions on PARC, nor likely anything at all. All we have is a brief flash of wit in the sky, arch dialect and then darkness.A high bar for an entrance? So many try to make a big splash, an entrance fronting their best values, with depth and sophistication. So many fail.

9thdoctor
This guy just rubbed me the wrong way. The thread title, then "Objectionist", some nonsense about comic book marginalia, and finally he can't even spell Glenlivet right. It was all boding ill. Reidy
First the lady who name-dropped Derrida, then the anti-fracking guy and now this one. I hope it isn't the start of a trend, as this has been quite enough weirdness to last for several years.
Michael Stuart Kelly
Pete,Google has been going through some algorithm updates and OL got favored in the search engine results. It seems to like our content for serving up results. But some of the terms I see in Analytics and Webmaster Tools are... odd.We even have some rather pornographic terms that drive traffic here because of things like the discussion on the Anthony Weiner affair. The result is that we get these goofballs showing up at times.Ironically, we had trouble with the context ads (notice that I have replaced them until this gets sorted out), and I'm almost 100% sure this is due to the current weirdness of search engine results. But maybe not. Who knows with the Big G?I might experiment with some other companies to see what happens.Michael
