George H. Smith
Of all the movies discussed on OL, I don't recall "Danton," starring Gerard Depardieu, ever being mentioned. I hadn't watched the film in many years, so I ordered the DVD a few days ago from Netflix. It's even better than I remember. The movie focuses on the conflict between Danton and Robespierre in the aftermath of the French Revolution, during the Reign of Terror. It is an excellent study of the revolutionary mentality. The entire movie can be seen on YouTube, starting here. Here is a brief clip from Danton's trial. <param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=phCXkOmj2D8?fs=1&hl=en_US&rel=0">Ghs

Oh that Robespierre! He was some piece of work. I wonder what Ayn Rand would have done with a characters such as he had. Ba'al Chatzaf
